Why We Created Artistic Creations

Have you ever looked at a class or a piece of art and thought, “I’d love to do that, but I’m just not creative,” or “Mine would never look like that”?

If you have, we hope you’ll come create with us anyway.

At Artistic Creations, you don’t have to consider yourself an artist or already know what you’re doing. Come as you are, try something new, make a few mistakes, learn along the way, and see what you can create.

Because creativity isn’t about getting it right. Creating art is a journey, and mistakes are part of the journey.

I know because learning to believe that changed creativity for me.

 For a long time, creativity was stressful for me. I grew up as a perfectionist, with a voice in my head that always seemed to notice what was wrong with something instead of what was beautiful about it.

A few years ago, Kim and I visited an artist’s studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While we were there, I opened up about how much I loved being creative, but how difficult it was for me to enjoy the process. I told him about the perfectionism, the frustration, and even the tears when something didn’t turn out the way I thought it should.

He put his hand on my shoulder, looked me in the eye, and told me, “Don’t let perfectionism take away the joy of creating.”

That conversation changed something for me.

Creating art is a journey, and mistakes are part of it. Sometimes what looks like a mistake becomes part of the piece. Sometimes you learn from it and try again. And sometimes you end up creating something completely different from what you imagined. Once I began to embrace that, I could jump fully into the messy creative process and create things I was genuinely proud of.

Kim had similar experiences growing up, and that is a big part of why we created Artistic Creations. We want this to be a place where people can experience the joy of making something without worrying about whether they’re “artistic enough” or whether what they make will be perfect.

When we say a class is for Beginners, we truly mean it. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to already be good at it. You just need to be willing to show up and give it a try.

So if you see a class and think, “That looks amazing, but I could never do that,” we hope you’ll come anyway.
