Copper Creations: Etched & Textured Cuff Bracelet
Date: 12/12/2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Price: $80 per person | All materials included
Join Young Harris artist Karin Butler, who brings more than 30 years of metalsmithing experience and an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, for a hands-on workshop where you'll transform a flat piece of copper into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind cuff bracelet!
You'll begin by learning how to use a jeweler's saw to round the edges of your copper blank and prepare it for etching. Karin will guide you through choosing and creating a design, then using ferric chloride, a chemical etching solution, to create permanent patterns in the metal.
While your copper undergoes the etching process, you'll enjoy a lunch break and explore additional metalsmithing techniques. In the afternoon, you'll learn metal texturing, annealing (heating metal to make it easier to shape), and safe use of a MAPP gas torch. You'll also practice filing, sanding, and polishing before forming your bracelet on a bracelet mandrel and giving it a final polish. Karin will introduce patina options that will be explored in greater depth in a future class.
By the end of the workshop, you'll take home a beautiful, handcrafted copper cuff bracelet and new metalsmithing skills!
No prior metalsmithing experience is necessary. All materials are included.
Lunch: Bring your own lunch or order from a local restaurant. A lunch break is included in the workshop schedule.
Class Size: Minimum 4 participants; maximum 6 participants to allow for personalized instruction.
Registration Deadline: November 30, 2026. The workshop requires at least four registered participants to proceed. A decision on whether the class will be held will be made on November 30.
